Over 75 countries and 40,000 locations offer and teach Zumba classes. It has sold various DVDs while millions of Zumba
followers attend classes each week.
Why is that? It is a bash! The word Zumba is Colombian lingo for rapid. It
mimics being in a nightclub without smoking, bad pick-up lines and drinking.
Brief
History of Zumba Star personal trainer, Beto Perez, discovered the brainchild behind Latin-inspired dance exercise
in the mid 90's while in his nativeland, Colombia.
At one time, he walked into his fitness class and discovered
that he forgot to bring with him his aerobic exercise songs. Thinking immediately, he grabbed several tapes he had with him
in his pack. His tapes were full of sound tracks he cherished. They were the widely popular Latin salsa and merengue tunes
he enjoyed all his life. However, it was arduous to extemporize a complete aerobics class on the spot using very different
aerobic exercise music. He rose to the occassion and concocted fresh and distinct approach to aerobic fitness. Pretty soon
his class became the most attractive class at the fitness club.
Class Structure The Zumba class format starts with a warm-up and is succeeded by slow and fast rhythms a.k.a. interval training for the
rest of the class. The classes finish with cooling down and stretching. A large part of Zumba sessions are cardiovascular
workouts. Nevertheless, a few teachers may involve the use of dumbbells, weighted bar, a step routine, or another form of
physical exercise to Zumba. The Zumba teacher will guide the class in effortless and simple movements with a mixture of dance
choreography and fitness routines. The mostly Latin music is delightful and exhilarating.
Zumba fuses divergent
Latino dance choreography such as Salsa, Cha-cha-cha, Mambo, Merengue, as well as regular fitness movements, such as upright
rows, lunges, plus strength training systems. You will have plenty of buns and hip swaying as well!
Zumba differs
from conventional aerobics classes in that it uses single track music and not continuous melodies. Music preferences comprise
both slow and fast tempoes to parallel the dance and body strengthening regimes.
What can I expect when I come
to Zumba? Zumba fitness classes are not like your normal commonplace aerobic class. There will be almost no oral cueing.
Many coaches do use verbal cueing as required and always apply hand gesturing.
Security has to be a concern too.
If you are bothered by back, knee or any other physical pains, keep your moves basic and ask your instructor for an different
technique to complete the choreography. Just make a point to take along lots of water, because you are going to perspire a
lot!
What if I'm not coordinated and I can't dance! Do not worry and don't get disappointed! Zumba uses plenty
of repetitious dance steps in every class. After attending some classes you will know the elementary steps. Although, if you
are not able to keep up with the steps, just sway to whatever way the song affects you! There is no proper or improper technique
to Zumba.
What if I am out of shape and I cannot carry on? Do not ignore your own body! Most people comprehend
their physical boundaries. Or else, see your physician before you tackle any type of exercise program. Work out at your personal
ability until you well suited to the intensity of the exercises. Just hang in there, since you have taken the first step towards
a more healthy, better lifestyle - you started out with a fun and rewarding class. Be happy with yourself!
What can I get from Zumba? You could burn up to a thousand calories a session, but it
all relies on how much you work yourself. You can increase stamina and firm-up muscles. Mentally, you can release anxiety,
juice up your mind by mastering new choreography. And it enables you to smile and sweat all at once! you will find that after
one class, you cannot wait to go back again!
Is it advisable for me to come to more than a single class every seven
days? Yes! Zumba is an excellent cardio exercise! You should do a cardiovascular exercise at least four times a week.
In essence, it doesn't need to be Zumba. Walking, biking, jogging, or any kind of cardio exercise will benefit you. Even so,
Zumba is the alternative for most people, because it is fun!
What should I wear
to class? You may wear any kind of workout clothes as long as they are loose, cool and allow your arms and legs
to maneuver easily in all places.
For your shoes, wear studio or dance shoes - anything that will give you support.
Please do not wear running sneakers to class. You have a great chance of hurting yourself if you do. If the soles of
your footwear feel like tire treads, don't use them. You will be dependent on the balls of your feet for crisscross moves
and pivots.
One last thing to keep in mind when you are searching for a Zumba program. Make sure that the class that you are interested in has a legitimate class instructor. There are a lot of fitness centers
that provide Zumba programs without a valid Zumba teacher. There is no such thing as a facility enabled to instruct in Zumba.
Well, what are you waiting for? Wear your dance shoes and Zumba your way to robust health!
